Examining the relationship between psychological resilience, self-compassion, and marriage satisfaction

In this study, the relationship between psychological resilience, self-compassion and marital satisfaction levels of married individuals and the extent to which psychological resilience and self-compassion variables predict marital satisfaction were examined. A total of 305 married individuals, 216 (70.8%) women and 89 (29.2%) men, living in the central Dulkadiroğlu district of Kahramanmaraş province participated in the study. Sociodemographic Information Form (SIF), Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (PRAS), Self-Sensitivity Scale (SSS) and Marital Satisfaction Scale (MSS) were used as data collection tools. The dependent variable of the study is marital satisfaction and the independent variables are psychological resilience and self-compassion. This research is a descriptive study organized according to the relational survey model. Standard Multiple Regression Analysis was used to determine the extent to which the predictor variables of psychological resilience and self-compassion predicted marital satisfaction, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationships between the variables. As a result of this study, it was determined that psychological resilience and self-compassion variables significantly predicted marital satisfaction of couples. It was determined that the mean total scores of the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults and the Self-Compassion Scale significantly predicted the mean total scores of the Marital Satisfaction Scale and the total scores of the Family, Sexuality and Self subscale of the NES in a positive direction. In addition, it was determined that there was a positive and moderately significant relationship between the total scores of the NES total scores and the total scores of the Family, Sexuality and Self subscale of the NES and the total scores of the YPDS and SLO. The findings were discussed and evaluated in the light of the relevant literature and suggestions for future applications and research were presented.
