Abstract (EN)

This study was planned to evaluate that protective effects of boric acid (BA), potassium tetraborate and ammonium biborate tetrahydrate (ABB) on cardiotoxicity in doxorubucine induced rats. 30 Wistar Albino, male rats were used in the study. Rats were divided 5 gruops that include 6 rats in each. Group 1: Control group (standard pellet feed+water+serum physiologic), group 2 doxorubucine induced (2,5 mg/kg/ip body wight one dose in a week, for 6 weeks totally at dose of 15 mg/kg). 3. group: doxorubucine+ BA (2,5 mg/kg/ip body wight one dose in a week, for 6 weeks totally at dose of 15 mg/kg, BA 10 mg/kg/day orally). Group 4: doxorubucine + PTB (2,5 mg/kg/ip body wight one dose in a week, for 6 weeks totally at dose of 15 mg/kg, PTB 10 mg/kg/day orally). Group 5: doxorubucine+ BA (2,5 mg/kg/ip body wight one dose in a week, for 6 weeks totally at dose of 15 mg/kg, ABB 10 mg/kg/day orally). In the study, MDA, GSH, ALT, AST, LDH, and CK levels were eveluated in serum samples. At the end of the study, MDA levels were increased in only DXR and DXR+PTB induced group (p>0,05). MDA levels were decreased in BA+DXR and AAB+DXR induced groups. But these decreases were not statistically important too (p>0,05). CK levels increased in DXR induced group and this increasing was important (p<0,001). Similarly, CK levels increased in PTB+DXR induced group but this increasing was not statistically important (p>0,05). CK levels were decreased in both BA+DXR and ABB+DXR groups. But these levels have not statistically meaning (p>0,05). As a result BA and ABB showed protective effect against doxorubucine induced oxidative stress by prevent MDA formation. PTB showed toxic effect at used dose in this study.
