The effects of low molecular weight heparins on bacterial translocation in experimental mesenter ischemia reperfusion injury model

Abstract (EN)

Ischemia is a partial or complete interruption of arterial blood flow to a tissue, while reperfusion injury occurs when blood flow is restored. Ischemia and reperfusion trigger the initiation of a number of chemical events at the cellular level in the tissue, and injury increases in time. One of the consequences of this damage is the bacterial translocation emerging with intestinal impairments. We aimed to demonstrate the effect of low molecular weight heparin on bacterial translocation following mesenteric ischemia-reperfusion (İ/R), which have not been studied in the literature. Twenty-one Wistar Albino rats were equally divided into 3 groups: Control group, İ/R group, İ/R + DMAH group. In the control group, SMA was exposed without insult. In the İ/R group, SMA was clamped for 45 minutes and reperfused for 60 min. In the İ/R+DMAH group, rats were given 1 mg / kg enoxaparin sodium 4 hours before the procedure. The SMA was then clamped for 45 minutes and reperfused for 60 min. At the end of the experiment, ileum samples were stained with hemotoxylin eosin and histopathologically evaluated with Chiu score; blood, MNL, spleen and liver samples were evaluated microbiologically. It was determined that ileal tissue damage in the İ/R group was not decreased significantly in the İ/R+DMAH group. In the İ/R+DMAH group, bacterial translocation levels in tissue cultures decreased significantly when compared with the İ/R group. Low molecular weight heparan used in intestinal İ/R rats was not effective enough to prevent İ/R injury; however, when microbiological evaluations were taken into consideration, the effect on bacterial translocation was positive.
