The effect of short-term high-intensity noise exposed in rats on some blood parameters

Abstract (EN)

This study examined the effect of short-term high-intensity noise on some blood parameters in rats. The results may help us to understand the potential effects of high noise levels on biochemical and hormonal balance. The animal material of the study consisted of 40 albino Wistar male rats (3 different study groups consisting of 10 control rats and 10 rats each) aged 6-8 weeks (aged) with body weights ranging from 180-250 g. Blood samples were collected from the rats in the control group without any treatment on day 0 under general anesthesia and this group of rats was then sacrificed. The 10 rats in study group 1 were exposed to white noise at 100 dB for 3 hours and then sacrificed after blood samples were collected under general anesthesia. Ten rats in study group 2 were exposed to white noise at 100 dB for 6 hours and then sacrificed after blood samples were collected under general anesthesia. The 10 rats in study group 3 were exposed to white noise at 100 dB for 12 hours and then sacrificed after blood samples were collected under general anesthesia. The blood sera were stored at -20°C until the date of measurements. Glucose, total cholesterol, insulin, prolactin, beta-endorphin, growth hormone, cortisol, total antioxidant and total oxidant levels were evaluated in all groups. The study revealed that there was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05) in beta-endorphin, cortisol and total antioxidant levels between the groups. The results revealed that acute stress developed in rats exposed to short-term high-intensity noise, followed by a decrease in beta-endorphin and cortisol levels due to negative feedback, while the increase in total antioxidant levels may be related to an increase in the body's capacity to cope with oxidative stress or an attempt to limit oxidative damage.
