Izmir/TurkeyOBJECTIVESThe early diagnosis and control of bleeding is initial step of treatment in trauma patients, in the hospital and outside of the hospital field. Rapidly providing the hemostasis is important for decreasing mortality and morbidity. This situation is especially which has got a lot of sacrifice like in a disaster and war but has got a restrictive medical capasity become a more important. The hemostasis methods have to be easily usable for injured or helper, localy feasiable, immediately obtainable, effective and cheap.We investigate effects of local Oxidised Cellulose powder on hemostasis time in a rat model with severe femoral artery bleeding that we perforated experimentaly rat femoral artery in our study.METHODIn our study, we perforated 10 wistar albino rat femoral artery with 22 gauge branule under eter anesthesia. In the control group we performed standart weight compress and in the study group standart weight compress and Oxidised Cellulose powder performed together. We investigate hemostasis time difference between two groups.RESULTSBleeding stopped at the second minute in two of five rat and at the fourth minute in three of five rat in the study group. There is no hemostasis occured at the fourth minute in the control group. Differences between two groups is statistically significant (p=0.004).CONCLUSIONApplication of Oxidised Cellulose powder and compression with a scale weight significantly decreased the time of hemostasis in a rat model with femoral arterial bleeding.KEY WORDSBleeding, Oxidised Cellulose, Hemostasis
