Arise and development of reiki and reflections of it in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

In recent years, Reiki has become a frequently mentioned technique in the world and in Turkey as well. Reiki, which is usually known as universal life energy was first systematized in Japan and was presented as an alternative medical application. It is also proposed that Reiki being introduced as anenergy based curing technique in fact was a latent activity used for mission activities of some religions. The study covers examination about Reiki, the appearance of Reiki, the historical development, the doctrine ,the implications of Reiki similarities and the differences among Reiki and some religions in order to find out whether it is a religion or not .In the introduction part of the study it is mentioned about the , the subject ,the aim , the importance, the method and the sources of Reiki as well as the relevance between Reiki and the 'new age' trends which have been gradually rising nowadays. The position of Reiki is examined from the 'alternative medical perspective' which is accepted as a Western originated application.In the first chapter, it is studied about the concept, the features and the appearance of Reiki and its transmission to the western society and the occurences after that transmission as well as the historical period of Reiki in Turkey.In the second chapter, the application of Reiki is introduced with an explanation of degrees, symbols and application area of the system beside the events that may appear during the applications.In the third chapter, a comparison is made between Reiki and believes in some religions. In order to find out the relevance between this technique and the religions.The study is concluded with a conclusion part in which reached conclusions were evaluated.Key Words: Reiki, Mikao Usui, Hawaya Takata, New Age, Reiki Symbol, Reiki Event
