Abstract (EN)
Abstract Relations between France and Turkey during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy were at the lowest level. After years of economic and cultural cooperation on policy, 2007 marked a diplomatic crisis between the two countries. Two issues informed the crisis: the demand for the integration of Turkey into the European Union and questions surrounding events that occurred in 1915. France continues to present itself as Turkey's main opponent in the EU and seeks recognize the Turkish government's actions in 1915 as "genocide".
