The relationships between leaf area index and cone yield in clonal seed orchard of scots pine

This study was carried out with 30 clones in Kastamonu in Taşköprü-Tekçam Sarıçam Clonal Seed Orchard. In this study, the relationships between diameter at breast height (d1,30), leaf area index (LAI) and cone number among different clones were determined. Inheritance regarding these characters (H2) was also observed. 5 sample trees were selected randomly for each clone based on the map of Taşköprü-Tekçam Sarıçam Clonal Seed Garden, and the distribution of the selection in the garden was homogeneous. Diameter, health status, number of cones, PAR and LAI values were found and recorded for each of the selected sample trees. In this study, in order to reduce the margin of error in measurements, measurements were made while the sun was on top. At the end of the study, when the change in the number of cones according to LAI, tree diameter and clones was observed in the sample trees, a relationship between the number of cones and clones was examined (p <0.05). There was no significant relationship between the LAI values and d1,30 (p> 0.05). Cone yield in the trees was found to be different according to clones (p <0.05). Inheritance values of the characters measured in the study were calculated and the highest heritability value was obtained in the number of H2 cones, while the values obtained in terms of LAI were below the average. Since the significant relationship between cone yield and LAI, which is very important for clonal seed orchards, has been demonstrated, it also shows that LAI is an evaluable character in applications that optimize seed yield. When the relationship between PAR and conifer yield was examined, no statistically significant relationship was found between PAR and cone yield (p> 0.05).
