Investigation of the signal peptide-cub-EGF domain containing protein 1 (SCUBE 1)level in renal transplantation patients

Aim: In this study, serum SCUBE1 level was measured in patients who applied renal transplantation because of end stage kidney disease (ESKD) and the effect of renal transplantation on SCUBE1 level was investigated in this group. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five patients who had undergone renal transplantation because of ESKD and whose routine work was carried out at the Organ Transplantation Clinic of KTU Medical School and 79 person whose age and sex distribution were consistent with the patient group who did not have any complaints and chronic disease, who came to check-up at KTU Medical School General Internal Medicine Policlinic, were enrolled in this study. Complete blood count, routine biochemical tests and SCUBE1 levels were studied from blood samples taken from the patient and control group and a comparative evaluation was made between the two groups. Results: The study included 75 renal transplant patients (group I) and 79 healthy subjects (group II) as a control group. 46.6% of the patients in group 1 were female (35/75) and 53.3% (40/75) were male, the mean age of the female was 39,09 ± 10,78 and the mean age of the male was 41,45 ± 10, 85. In the second group, 40 women (51%) with a mean age of 38.23 ± 8.36 and 39 men (49%) with a mean age of 42.62 ± 10.86 were present. Compared with group I and II; there was statistically significant difference between BUN, creatinine and Hb levels (p = 0.000). C-reactive protein, sodium and potassium values were not significantly different between the groups (p=0,44 , p=0,45 , p=0,36). Although we observed differences between the groups in terms of SCUBE1 levels, this value was not statistically significant. The mean SCUBE1 level in the transplant group was 3.54 ± 8.48 ng / mL and the SCUBE1 level in the control group was 2.91 ± 2.68 ng / mL (p = 0.053). When we evaluated group 1 in terms of CKD etiology, we found that patients with VUR stories had higher SCUBE1 levels than the other groups. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant effect of the type of renal replacement therapy applied before the kidney transplantation, the immunosuppressive type used in the post operative period, the time after the kidney transplantation and the live donor or cadaver in the supply of the organ, on SCUBE1 levels. Conclusion: There is a statistically significant difference between BUN, creatinine and hemoglobin levels between patients receiving renal transplantation and healthy subjects. There was no statistically significant difference between SCUBE1 levels in both groups. There was no difference between the SCUBE1 levels of patients who were transplanted with live donor or patients transplanted from cadavers. No effect of the immunosuppressive type used by the patients in the postoperative period on the SCUBE1 level was detected. There was no effect of RRT type applied before renal transplantation on serum SCUBE1 level measured after renal transplantation. There was no significant correlation between SCUBE1 level and time after renal transplantation.
