Abstract (EN)
Throughout the centuries, mirror has been the most important object in the existential bond between one?s own and his reflection. The link between the reflection and the gaze, with the assumption of the identity?s formation being outside inward, is parallel with the person?s process of being a subject and with the consent of the other. The role of power and cultural structure is great in this consent. The link between the gaze and the reflection has also been effective in woman's self-identity formation. For today the female identity initiatives and the discussions on social gender have shown that what the woman sees on her own reflection is the gaze of the other directed with the desires of the masculine culture, and the female image shaped with this gaze. For this reason, the main issue conceptually dealt in this thesis is the reflection in the process of subjectivity, the other?s identity-reflection-gaze relationship linked with the consent of masculine culture, and the effect of being woman in this process.Throughout the history art has been a mirror referred in existential problems and psychological search. Especially the canvas as the picture surface, can be described metaphorically as the inner mirror. However, the changes in the human perception created with scientific discoveries and technological developments also shifted the direction of the gaze from the surface of the canvas to the screen. So today, the mirror is transformed from painting to cinema. But the close relationship that exists between vision and understanding in western culture and the tradition of painting formed in this direction influenced cinema as a new emerging art. Another issue dealt within this thesis is the link between image and cinema. In this context, the ontological and structural relationships and the intersection and divergence points between these two forms of art will be elaborated with the analysis of films made within the framework of the context.Artistic application of the thesis is primarily the portraits associated with internal and external perspectives and identity. The artistic medium is the mirror that reflects these portraits. This process is terminated with a short film that involves mirror-reflection-gaze-self relationship and interpreted with the arguments of the postmodern era. Unlike the surface studies, camera is selected as the tool providing sound and motion and cinematic language is used. However this short film is a study that involves a pictorial arrangement and intends to be based on plastic editing. Another objective of this study is the desire to apply the theoretical knowledge on the relationship between painting and cinema. As a result it can be said that theoretically and practically this thesis is dedicated to the effort of interpreting of the relationship between mirror-reflection and self in the postmodern era and attempts to re-interpret the art of painting with the camera and a cinematic language.Keywords:1.Mirror2.Reflection3.Gaze4.Identity5.Painting-Cinema
