Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT In this research, before the subject of The Guitar in Renaissance Period', the early guitar -like instruments are taken into consideration. After giving information about the origin of the guitar, the effects of Arabic and eastern countries to the formation of the guitar through history are examined. Under the title of The Birth of the Guitar' the instruments that can be thought as the ancestors of today's guitar are mentioned. In the next chapter, the guitars that were used in Renaissance Period are examined. In this chapter, Vihuela, Four Course Guitar, Five Course Guitar and Lute are explained in detail. Following this chapter, the Tablature Systems that were used in Renaissance Period are also explained in detail; After these subjects, the composers of Renaissance Period and some important work are taken into consideration. The subject has been discussed with the teachers of both the Education of Music department and the Conservatory. And many resources both in turkish and english have been used. In the books, the Guitar from the Renaissance to Present Day, by Harvey Turnbull, The Art and Times of the Guitar, by Frederic Grunfeld, The Early Guitar, by James Tyler, the parts related with the subject are translated from english to turkish. These books are mostly used while preparing the subject. Among the turkish resources unpublished doctorate thesis of Prof. Dr. Yıldız Elmas The Evolution of the Guitar's Form in Music History and Encyclopedia of Music by Ahmet Say are mostly used. II
