Recent turbine technology and overview of wind energy source in Turkey

In this study, wind energy potential of Turkey and the usage rates of these potentials were examined through regions. In addition, the wind power installed in Turkey is compared with global values. Turkey's wind energy objectives and the realization of these objectives were evaluated. Technical specifications of wind turbines in Turkey and worldwide were informed. Wind turbines engaged in Turkey were compared with worldwide and especially in the countries developed wind energy sector and today's wind turbine technologies were investigated. Wind turbines were classified generally, components were briefly mentioned that composed it and the most significant equipment of generators that generating electricity were investigated. Descriptive informations were illustrated for technical and characteristic features of doubly fed asynchronous generator and permanent magnet synchronous generator which are the mostly used generators in today's wind turbines. These two generators were compared to each other and advantageous features were revealed. It was researched that which the most suitable generator type for production of large scale wind turbine is in Turkey. In the last part, findings were evaluated and some suggestions were proposed.
