Animal style decoration and original applications seen in manuscript works of the Safavid period

In the 16th century, the Safavid State showed great development in terms of politics, economy and culture. It is a special period in terms of art, and very rich and ostentatious works were revealed in the decorative arts belonging to this period. In this context, decorative arts developed with the support and influence of the state, and important workshops were opened in art centers. The artists who received the support of the Safavid rulers produced quality works in terms of fabric, carpet, jewelry, architecture and book arts, and they also decorated important manuscripts in many branches of science such as History, Literature, Medicine, Astrology and Religion. In the ornamentation school, which is found in manuscripts, it is seen that the animal style is used quite intensively. Animal style, which draws attention in miniature and illuminated manuscripts, includes scenes of animal struggle, hunting, the harmony of nature elements and animal figures, and the use of animal figures in Halkari. The animal style ornamentation, which is frequently used in manuscripts in Islamic art, has a record value in terms of art. In the light of all this information, in this study, miniature and illuminated manuscripts in which animal style ornaments were used in the Safavid period were analyzed and examined, and the use of this style in motifs and compositions was evaluated and original designs were discussed.
