The effects of exercise training based on health developing model on symptoms during menopause

Objective: This study was planned to find out effects of exercise training based on health developing model on symptoms during menopause. Material and Methods: The study had a trial model with pre-test and post-test control group. The study universe consisted of 781 women aged between 45 and 60 living in the city centre who were in menopause and registered to 6 and 16 numbered Family Health Centres in Adıyaman. The sample consisted of 156 women, 78 in experimental, 78 in control group, chosen randomly from Family Health Centres. Data were collected with Personal Information Form, Menopause Symptoms Rating Scale and Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale-I between January and June 2018. The researcher went to houses of the women in experimental group and gave a 60-minute-long exercise training. Reminder training was given one month later. Control group was given exercise training after the research ended. Data collection forms were given to groups 12 weeks after pre and post-test data were obtained. Numbers, percentages, averages, Chi-square test, dependent groups t test and independent groups t test were used in data analysis. Results: Menopause Symptoms Rating Scale post-test total score average was 28.8±2.8 in experimental group and 37.3±2.8 in control group, Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale-I post-test total score average was 123.7±9.1 in experimental group and 87.5±8.3 in control group. The difference between average scores of the groups was statistically significant (p=0.000). Conclusion: Exercise training based on health developing model given to women in the experimental group decreased symptoms in menopause.
