Health behaviors and smoking addiction of behavior change

Smoking is an important health problem causing many diseases. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the adaptation process of smoking addicts to the activities related to health behaviors and behavior change. The main reasons for the change of health behavior of addicts who quit smoking and cannot quit smoking are aimed. Smoking adversely affects the quality of individuals' lives. This research topic has been selected in order to determine the health behaviors and the reasons in the process of change and to take the necessary precautions. Literature review was done first in order to evaluate the factors affecting risky health behaviors in addicts who quit and cannot quit smoking. Afterwards, the Focus Group Interview was done to 5 addicts who were able to quit smoking and 5 addicts who were not able to quit smoking. After the Focus Group Interview, the differences in the adaptation process of the addicts were determined in terms of their health behaviors and behavior changes. As a result, it has been observed the affecting factors of the change in behavior in the process of changing health behavior of addicts who quit smoking and cannot smoking. The affecting factors are socio-demographic, socio-economic, chronic illness or patient status, differences in belief psychology in changing health behaviors, desire to be healthy individuals, factors such as children's point of view to the smokers.
