Abstract (EN)

The concept ?Healthy Cities? is a concept embracing many different disciplines. A healthy city can be defined as a city that started changes and a process to become healthier, more peaceful and more livable. ?Healthy Cities Project? was initiated by World Health Organization as a long term international project that aims to bring the concept of health into the agenda of the decision makers in Europe.In Turkey both the Municipal Law and Metropolitan Municipal Law provides favorable terms for cities to become a part of the Healthy Cities Movement. In Turkey works related with Healthy Cities started in 1993. These works are carried out in two different branches. One of these is the Turkish Healthy Cities Association and the other is the member municipalities of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network. Turkish Healthy Cities Association is a union of local governments that been founded by a decision published in the official gazette on 22 December 2004. The goals of the Association are to spread, adopt and apply principles of the Healthy Cities Movement in Turkey. Turkish Healthy Cities carries out its works through ordinary and extraordinary council meetings and trainings. In the second part of this study a questionnaire about the coordinators of the member cities of the Association and works of members related with the healthy cities? principles is analyzed.The last part of this study examines economic and sociocultural aspects and the infrastructure of the city of Isparta. The work also covers policies and applications of Isparta Municipality, which taken steps to become a member of Turkish Healthy Cities Association, towards participation, governance and intersectoral cooperation. In addition this study will cover projects of Isparta Municipality related with Increase of Commerce, Protection of Environment, Culture and Sports, Infrastructure and Residences, Social Aid in the scope of health and sustainability principles.Keywords: Health Promotion, City Healty, Healty Cities Project, Sustainable Urbanization, Participation.
