Abstract (EN)

Illustration, which means illustrate and decoration, is a branch of graphic design. The main purpose in illustration is to describe a subject and can be used with a text to support that text. The illustration designed in relation to the text helps to understand the text better and adds a visual richness. In book illustrations, a concrete frame can be transferred to the paper by illustrating the abstract scenes dreamed of with poetry. It creates semantically different worlds for the reader, provides a connection between the person's imagination and the illustrated, and can help the person understand the text better. Rupi Kaur used poetry and illustration together in her books and offered a different perspective to the reader. Alongside the poems he wrote, he drew illustrations based on the images in the poem and produced a different effect. He also drew attention with his subjects by using illustrations as a complement to the narrative. In this thesis, the features of illustration and poetry were examined, illustration and poetry were compared, the illustrations in Rupi Kaur's books were interpreted and concluded with an application example.
