Abstract (EN)

Slow cities are increasingly gaining acceptance as an alternative development model due to their prioritization of economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Therefore, it is possible to observe a visible interest in the topic in the literature. However, its role in combating women poverty is addressed in a limited manner. In this context this research investigates whether the slow city status plays an effective role in combating women poverty. A multi-method (qualitative and qualitative) approach used in the study. Köyceğiz was selected as the study area. Firstly interviews were conducted with 23 women residing in Köyceğiz between September 1 and September 4, 2022. Additionally, during the fieldwork, the researcher recorded a daily journal containing observation notes. Data were analyzed through summative content analysis. The main results of the research are as follows: After Köyceğiz attained Cittaslow status, the number of visitors has increased. This situation has increased employment opportunities for women and facilitated income growth. Social amenities in the city have improved, leading to an increase in overall life satisfaction. The rise in cultural diversity is also noteworthy. However, the increase in tourist arrivals and migration to the city has resulted in a rise in traffic problems, posing a threat to the city's "slow" characteristic.
