Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is aimed to investigate the geothermal energy potential of Salar, Sülün and Karaarslan (Afyonkarahisar) villages and their surroundings with the help of geological, mineralogical-petrographic, geochemical and geophysical data. The study area is located in the northwest of the Afyon – Akşehir graben. During the geological studies, the geological data forming the geothermal conceptual model of the region were revealed. Polarizing microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and geochemical analyzes were performed on samples taken from different rock types and different alteration zones in volcanic rocks. The alteration zones in the study area were formed as a result of the alteration of the volcanoclastics located at the intersection of the Halimoru fault and the Salar fault, which forms the southern border of the Afyon – Akşehir graben. The alterations observed in the region are divided into two groups as (1): Simectite+illitic zone and (2): Simectite+illite+kaolinitic zone. The extent of the alteration zones in the field and their lithological features, the alteration minerals they contain and the results of geochemical analysis support that the alteration in the region is formed by the effect of hydrothermal processes. In order to determine the deep structure and lateral and vertical distribution of the geothermal system in the study area, magnetotelluric (MT) measurements were made along the North-South and East-West oriented profiles. With performing preprocess and inversion processes on the raw MT data, 2 shaped (2D) resistivity were obtained for the profile lines. In the 2D Resistivity models, in accordance with geological studies, the segments of the Işıklar fault zone, namely the Halimoru, Salar and Sülün faults, and the secondary faults that cut them into the obverse were observed. The fact that the values obtained with clay mineral (50 - 200°C), oxygen isotope (44 - 121°C) and silica (71 - 75°C) geothermometers change in harmony with each other and that the fossil geothermal systems causing hydrothermal alteration and the current geothermal systems This strengthens the idea that the conditions of the study are quite similar and the study area has a geothermal potential.
