Carpet as an art object

The philosophical and artistic approaches of the 1960s have a great impact on contemporary art statements. The environmental and public consciousness which has led to shaping the artistic conception has been developed based upon being against to consumption society, world peace, human rights and feminism, universal values against the capitalist system. The artists can express themselves in different styles denoted as Fluxus, conceptual art, installation, land art, eco-art, performance art, neo-expressionism, street art, urban art, video art, digital art, internet art, software art. Art always continues to exist of its new descriptions in front of the artist and contemporary art as time, space and concept. Furthermore, the traditional practices are also manifest themselves either with their meanings or the meaning that they have got from the context. The carpet is one of these art objects preferred by the artists as being one of the cultural and living space connotations. This thesis discusses the "carpet" which is used by the artist as a stylistic feature by discussing the "art object" concept based on the artistic and philosophical approaches.
