The role of small and medium enterprises (Sme?s) in Turkey in the progress of industrialization

It is impossible to handle Turkey apart from the European Union which has been established after the big efforts of all kinds of economic and political integration of European countries. Turkey made its first moves for joining by signing the Customs Union agreements and started full membership discussions in 2001. These developments between Turkey and the EU, increased the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME?s) which plays an important role in Turkish manufacturing industry. Small and Medium Enterprises have the dynamics and the flexible structures which is needed to faster the local and national growth and rapid industrialization. They can keep up with the market and marketplace?s conditions and technologic changes. Small and Medium Enterprises have limited resources but they are the vital elements of the economics in all countries. Today a lot of countries developed various institutions to solve the problems of Small and Medium Enterprises and provide coordination between each other. Most of the enterprises which are established in our country are Small and Medium Enterprises. They have lots of benefits such as; creating employment, balancing the income distribution and equalizing the interregional imbalances However the SME?s in our country are faced with various problems like financial difficulties, not having healthy infrastructures, shortage of know-how, marketing issues and chronic inflation. Necessary efforts, to solve such problems of SME?s and increase the efficiency in general economy and industry are exerted by both EU countries and Turkey. For this purpose a quastionnaire study was carried out to determine the problems which SME?s encounter and submit the solution proposals against these problems. As a result the weak and strong aspects of the SME?s, which plays an important role in the industrialization of Turkey that processes the fully membership, are determined and suitable industrialization strategies are tried to be generated.
