Abstract (EN)

Today, hailstones have the potential of harming almost any objects that encounter with. To prevent from hail that can rain heavily, some studies carry out. However, it hasn't be reached a result that completely successful. Until our technology comes to the stage of inhibition these hails, people have to develop some methods in order to protect themselves from the hail. Automobiles are one of the most damaged by hailstorms. In order to protect automobiles from the hailstorms, various protective fabrics have been studied and patents have been obtained. One of the components that have the potential to be used as a protector is special sandwich textile products. These fabrics are wanted to be used as a protector. However, it is a matter of curiosity which of the dozens of variety fabrics shows the best protection performance. In this study, an experimental device which tests the performance of sandwich textile materials against hail and simulates the hail damage has been designed and product. With artificial hailstones that are 25mm and 30mm diameters, experiments have conducted on sandwich textile fabrics that have same weaving feature and different thicknesses. Uncovered experiments have also conducted with the artificial hailstones that have the same diameters, so the amount of damage in all experiments has been measured. As a result, it has compared which fabric provided how much protection against artificial hailstones with different diameters.
