Abstract (EN)

In this study, our aim was to investigate the potential alterations of ocular hemodynamics after strabismus surgery with the use of color Doppler ultrasonography. Twenty eyes of 18 patients with the complaint of squint who admitted to our ophthalmology clinic were evaluated. For comparison, we also evaluated the left eyes of 20 healthy age and sex matched volunteers. Ophthalmic artery, central retinal artery, short posterior ciliary artery, long posterior ciliary artery and central retinal veins of both groups were evaluated. With spectral analysis; peak systolic velocity, end diastolic velocity, resistivity and pulsatility indices, acceleration time and acceleration index values were calculated. All these examinations were repeated in patient population at first day and first month of postoperative period. There were not a statistically significant difference between single horizontal rectus muscle surgery group (7 patients) and two horizontal rectus muscle surgery group (13 patients). Adjustable suture procedure had not a statistically significant effect on retrobulber hemodynamics. We also could not find a significant difference between the preoperative and postoperative Doppler examinations. In contrary to some recent papers, we can conclude that the strabismus surgery involving single or two horizontal rectus muscles does not have a serious impact on retrobulbar blood flow.
