Abstract (EN)
EVALUATION OF THE ACUTE EFFECTS OF NICERGOLINE IN THE EXPERIMENTAL CRUSH INJURY OF RATS? SCIATIC NERVEPeripheral nerve injury is a frequent type of injury and though many discipline struggle for the treatment of it. However because of not having satisfied clinical results, it is still an important clinical problem. In this study, we evaluated the acute period effects of nicergoline, is an agent having neurotrophic, vasoactive, and hemorrhagic effects, and it also is a well-tolerated drug, onto the acute peripheral nerve injury. The study was performed on rats by performing an experimental nerve injury model and we evaluated the effects of nicergoline in low and high with the aid of clinical and biochemical parameters. Sciatic nerve functional index which is a well known technique in the literature was used as a clinical parameter. As a biochemical parameters proinflammatory cytokine and nerve growth factor levels were studied. We found that nicergoline suprresed the levels of cytokines and elevated the nerve growth factor level. As a result of study, we observed that nicergoline has beneficial effects on acute peripheral nerve injury in the acute period. In conclusion, although our findings suggest that nicergoline has beneficial effects on peripheral nerve injury, our results must be repeated and also they must be supported by immünhistochemical studies.KEY WORDSPeripheral nerve injury, sciatic nerve, sciatic nerve functional index, nerve growth factor, cytokine
