Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, one of the town center and provincial organization of Ottoman Empire, is examined with its education and cultural life of the city after the Tanzimat. During the dissertation research primarily scanned archive materials from selected date range from 1839 to 1908. As a result of this, the information regarding the background, salary, position and staff of the scholars who had been educated and worked in Uşak were obtained within the personal files in the Archives of The Chief Religious Offical of the Ottoman Empire in İstanbul Müfti Office of Meshikhat. Besides, in the yearbook of the Ministry of Education and Hüdavendigâr province yearbooks, the numbers of the personal on the education field, as well as the teachers who worked and the pupils studied in institutes of education could be reached. With the help of the correspondences between the Ottoman Arshives of the Prime Ministry and Bab-ı Ȃlî Registry Office about the Ministry of Education, the curriculum and the text books that were used in the Madrasas in Uşak could be determined. Accordingly, especially in the early 1900's there were 40 madrasas, around 130 rudimentary and primary school, four foreigners and the non -Muslim school, two private enterprise school, one Rushdie which for junior high school, two library in Uşak town. As a result of this resarch we have been learned that approximately 3500-4000 students in the XIX. last part century; 6500-7000 students in the XX. century had education in these schools. According to our research covering the 70 year period between the years 1839-1908, Uşak is seen a leading center as eceonomical and populational Hüdâvendigâr settlements in the province. Similarly, Uşak in Kütahya province with Eskişehir it proved to be the most important educational center. Also, Uşşâkîlik colt which grew up in Uşak, Ahî community, Bektashi dervish islamis lodges were improve to the scientific, cultural and religion life of Uşak. On the other hand the name and works of Uşak's scientists have been identified during our research but unfortunately it is impossible to reach their works. The effort will be useful to find a solution to this lock in the future.
