Scribbling text in paintings

With the discovery and use of writing, the lives, cultures and belief systems of societies were affected and transformed over time. Documents that express feelings and thoughts through writing and convey information from communication to lifestyles have survived to this day. The fact that writing has an abstract tendency separates it from nature, causing it to carry a spiritual value in different languages, religions and cultures and to be expressed artistically. The aesthetic harmony and proportional balance of letters from the Eastern and Far Eastern regions are applied with different methods and techniques, making the art of calligraphy gain importance. While the different written language in Eastern and Far Eastern culture took a different form with the painting-like writings written by Zen priests, it was called calligraphy (text stacking) in Eastern art. Since calligraphy is the act of writing beautifully, it has gained meaning in art by expressing it in a balanced and spiritual way. The aesthetic value of Arabic letters has acquired a different value in the formation of the art of calligraphy in Eastern Islamic countries. The texts written by Turkish calligraphers by applying the text stacking method were visually pleasing to the eye. The scribblings that calligraphers made to practice their hands and in the serenity of interiority have influenced different art disciplines in addition to originality. By influencing artists in the West as well as in the East, works under the influence of these calligraphic scribbles began to be seen in their works. Painters who create works in this field continue their production today and continue to make experimental works with different techniques and methods. This work focuses on text study, the history of writing, the connection of scribbling with art, and the artists who adopted scribbling as a painting element or attitude in their paintings. In the last part of the text, it is discussed how writing and scribbling are the starting point and used in Filiz Hatipoğlu's paintings.
