Energy security of Iran in the context of sectoral analysis

Security is always among the top priority agendas of states. In this context, the increasing energy demand due to globalization and the increase in production in the world causes the security in the energy sector to be discussed and makes energy security a priority agenda concern of the states. In this context, an analysis is made on which variables the concept of energy security includes. It is observed that the concept in question is incomplete as it is accepted in the literature and the dimension of "security of demand" is ignored. On the other hand, the multidimensional approach of the Copenhagen School, which is accepted as the starting point of modern security studies, constitutes the theoretical infrastructure of the study. Analyzing the "security of demand" of Iran, which is a country rich in energy resources, within the framework of the "sectoral analysis" approach of the Copenhagen School, that deals with security over different sectors and defines it through a civil perspective, constitutes the main objective of the study. It is one of the primary goals for Tehran to transport Iran's oil and natural gas resources to the world energy markets and to earn income from these resources. In order for international trade to be carried out safely and to ensure the balance of energy supply-demand, there must primarily be functioning institutions/structures and a stable geography. As a matter of fact, while Iran ensures its energy security, security of demand in other words, it has to stabilize or attain a minimum structure in all security sectors. In this context, it is evaulated that it will be beneficial to look at the energy security of Iran from the military, political, economic, social and environmental perspectives of the Copenhagen School. It is certain that a multidimensional security analysis will provide us different perspectives and these perspectives will help us make security definitions more accurate. As a result, we can base the need for our analysis to be multidimensional on the fact that it consists of many different parameters such as international pipelines that affect Iran's energy security, Revolutionary Guards, the Baluchis, Bonyads (private foundations).
