Celadon glazes

It is a known fact that the role and effects of Far East ceramics on the world art of ceramics in its important developing period is undeniable. A lot of different technique and style, along with the richness of the philosophy of Far East, the conditions of nature, the variety of raw materials enabled the apprehension of art to develop. Celadon, which is an artistic glaze, belongs to Far East and necessitates a special baking technique and has important contributions to the world art of ceramics. There are solidified ferriferous clay and ferroxide glaze is applied on their surfaces and then is fired in a reduced, oxidized and neutral environment. This process enables celedon ceramics to be produced. Celadon has dull and transparent color variations that change from grey-green to blue-green. Celadon glaze both increases the artistic value of the forms that are applied and also brings a minimal visual quality to them. The art of ceramics which started to reach the value that deserves and gains an original identity, is enriched with the different cultural and regional techniques and also gains an authentic style. In this research, the history of celadon glaze which is a Far East ceramics technique, its production techniques are researched, experimental studies were done with the available ceramics raw materials in our country and they were applied to the forms. Hence it is thought that this study is going to contribute to the Turkish Contemporary Art of Ceramics. Key words: Far East ceramics, celadon glazes, artistic glazes, reduction firing.
