Sectoral approach to landscape character analysis in Şenpazar Sub-Basin focus

Population growth, unconscious and intense urbanization in the living conditions of our age harms natural and cultural landscapes. For this reason, protected areas and their qualified resource values deteriorate. In order to prevent the deterioration of the landscapes, to ensure their protection and sustainable use, common approaches have been adopted at the international platform. Within the scope of the European Landscape Convention (ELC) opened for signature on this path, there are bases for the identification, classification, determination and management of landscapes. The Landscape Character Analysis (LCA) approach that is used to determine the character of landscapes and to follow their change is accepted worldwide. With this study, LCA was carried out in landscape planning approach for sub-basin No. 22 of the Western Black Sea basin with the focus of ELC, which Turkey is also a party to. As a result of analysis carried out with the field studies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, 402 Landscape Units (LU) and 118 Landscape Character Types (LCT) by reclassifying each of these units were obtained. 5 Landscape Character Areas (LCA) were identified as Aydos Stream Landscape, Aydos Canyon Landscape, Dry Agriculture Landscape, Küre Mountains Landscape and Şenpazar Settlement Landscape, which were named using natural and cultural landscape variables and original place names by reclassification of LCT's. Development, protection and management strategies have been developed through sectoral conformities prepared by synthesizing change, print and function analyzes. Later, by using the total function of the landscape obtained by synthesizing the function analysis, LCT's were synthesized and the area usage plan was interpreted.
