Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the development of a fluorescent sensor for the detection of aluminum(III) was purposed using a newly synthesized Schiff base. The sensor performance properties such as response time, working range, selectivity and reversibility were investigated. For an inexpensive and quick determination of aluminium ions are a highly sensitive and selective spectrofluorimetric method. The method is based on increasing the fluorescence intensity of the ligand after addition trace amount of aluminium ions. Effect of interference of other metal ions was studied. Other metal ions such as K+, Cd2+, Ni2+, Fe3+, Na+, Ca2+, Co2+, Cr2+, Pb2+, Hg2+, Mn2+, Cu2+ and Mg2+ were showed no significant change in fluorescence intensity. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curve is linear for concentration in the range of 1.5x 10-8 to 7.5 x 10-8 M Al3+. LOD and LOQ values were found 4.77x10-10 M and 1.59x10-9 M, respectively. The interaction ratio between Al3+ and the ligand was been found as 1:2 and binding constant of the complex was 1.78x10+4 L/ mol. The average response time of the sensor is 2 min. Besides, the sensor can readily be reversed with EDTA solution. The sensor was applied to the determination of aluminium in real water samples.
