Abstract (EN)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinological disease with a very complex pathophysiology and seen in 5%-20% of women of reproductive age. PCOS is a heterogeneous disease; It is formed by the interaction of many genetic, intrauterine and environmental factors. The Apelinergic system (APJ), consisting of Apelin and Elabela, mediates vasodilator, cardioprotective and angiogenic effects. The relationship of serum apelin between patients diagnosed with PCOS and patients not diagnosed with PCOS is unknown. The aim of the researchis to compare serum Elabela levels of patients with PCOS and those without PCOS.The type of research is case control. The research was carried out between 01.04.2021 and 28.06.2021 in Yozgat Bozok University Research and Application Hospital, Gynecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic. Forty-four female patients (experimental group) diagnosed with PCOS according to Rotterdam criteria and 44 female patients not diagnosed with PCOS (control group) were included in the research. The data of the research were collected from "the Personal İnformation Form (BMI, smoking, alcohol use habits, drugs used, systemic disease)" and routine blood taken from the patients. After the blood was stored under appropriate conditions, it was evaluated by ELISA method and laboratory data were obtained from the hospital automation system. While the mean age of the patients included in the research was 27.4 ± 5.8 in the control group, it was 26.4 ± 6.1 in the experimental group. No statistical significance was found in the intergroup comparison of personal information (p>0.05). Serum elabela, insulin and HOMA-IR levels of the patients in the case group were found to be statistically significant and higher compared to the patients in the control group (p = 0.018; <0.001; <0.001, respectively). As a result of the research, serum Elabela level was found to be high in patients diagnosed with PCOS. Also, serum Elabela level correlates with Insulin and HOMA-IR. In conclusion, serum Elabela level is a parameter that predicts metabolic problems in patients diagnosed with PCOS.
