Abstract (EN)

IV. ABSTRACT COMPARISON OF THIN PREP MANUAL SCREENING AND THIN PREP IMAGING SYSTEM OF CERVICAL CYTOLOGY FOR DIAGNOSTIC ACCURACY Dr. Özge Dilara ÇOLAKKADIOĞLU Residency Thesis, Department of Pathology Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Suna ERKILIÇ, MD 2014, 83 Pages Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancy of women. Pap Test is a very common procedure for the cervical cancer screening programme. It is a simple, safe, reliable and cost effective procedure as a first line technique for the diagnosis and management of cervical lesions. In this study, we aimed to compare diagnostic accuracy between Thin Prep manual (TPM) screening and Thin Prep Imaging system (TIS) which is a new method used for recent years. Manually screened 1300 smears were rescreened with Thin Prep Imaging System. Results were compared with manual screening results and the results of the 290 smears which have following biopsies were confirmed with their histopatologic diagnosis. There was significant difference between TPM and TIS (TIS: 94.1, TPM: 62.7) for sensitivity, and there was'nt significant difference between them (TIS: 99.5, TPM: 99.1) for specificity. TIS is a very useful method for cervical cytology. Although there are some disadvantages, there are a lot of advantages of this method when adjustment occur. Key Words: Cervical cytology, Thin Prep, Imaging System
