Abstract (EN)
Cinema has opened a new field of art by gathering the arts in its own body. It has expanded its possibilities since the day it came out and has fascinated its viewers and brought them new perspectives. Cinema as a school in itself has accompanied the individual formal and informal educational adventure in schools or for each person's own education. As the potential of cinema was discovered, they attracted the attention of educators and enriched their lessons by making it a part of their lessons in schools. Education is one of the most discussed topics of all time. These discussions arise from the fact that education that is dynamic and open to change depends on the development of factors other than itself and that education affects others outside of it. The aim of this study is to examine how formal education is represented in Turkish cinema. Based on the five sample films selected, films such as Hababam Class (1975), Teacher (1988), Exam (2006), Two Languages One Suitcase (2008) and Impossible Probability(2016)were analyzed using discourse method. In the study, the philosophical framework of the concept of education was drawn in the first section, the relationship between cinema and education was discussed in the second section, and in the third section, how Turkish cinema handles education. By examining how films deal with education within the framework of educational sciences, those suitable for the study were selected from the titles determined by Teun Van Dijk for the critical discourse analysis in which he examined the texts, and the representation of education in Turkish cinema was revealed. It has been determined that Turkish cinema looks more critically at educational points with a critical approach. The films served as a guide for what measures to take in the context of the components of the education that was staged negatively.
