The relationship between Auteur theory in cinema and star system: Ferzan Ozpetek Sinema sample

Auteur theory in cinema which arose in 1940s is defined as a theory that accepts cinema as an art and director as an artist. The theory was first introduced as an idea and was turned into politics through the progressive process. And finally, it was transformed into a theory by American academics. Auteur theorists are pioneers of New Wave (Yeni Dalga) cinema. In other words, New Wave (Yeni Dalga) is a practice of Auteur theory. Moreover, Auteur theory is a formation that covers all the phenomenon of cinema. When star concept is examined, the first years of cinema points out how this system was formed. In early years, cinema had less demand compared to theater. Furthermore, those who were engaged with cinema had brought the most admired names of the theater in the cinema in order to attract theater viewers. Thereafter, the star system has been transformed into a kind of consumer culture over time with the cinema logic of the period; as a result the stars have found life in the consumed position. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between Auteur theory and the star system.
