Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY The survey area includes the Gerze and the Central districts of the Sinop province in the Western Black Sea Region. This study was carried out in units defined as Early-Late Paleocene aged Akveren and Atbaşı Formations which show wide distribution in the region. This study was carried out in units defined as Early-Late Paleocene aged Akveren and Atbaşı Formations which show wide distribution in the region. Formation of Campanian Older Cankurtan located on compatible Akveren Formation Late Paleocene - Early Eocene Formation overlie the older Atbaşı compatible. Akveren Formation situated in accordance on Campanian older Cankurtan Formation is overlain Late Paleocene - Early Eocene aged Atbaşı Formation. The Middle Eocene Yenikonak Formation located incompatible over the Atbaşı Formation. In this study, 3 stratigraphic sections belonging to Akveren and Atbaşı Formations were measured and 18 samples were collected from these sections, the samples were washed in the laboratory with the Knitter method the planktonic foraminiferas they contain are sorted out. From these abundant and well-preserved planktonic foraminifera, 11 genus, 40 species were identified and with detailed biostratigraphic studies three biozones, age giving Danian, Selandian and Tanesian and four sub-biozones of these biozones were identified. These biozones are; in Danian, Parasubbotina pseudobulloides Zone (P1), Subbotina triloculinoides Subzone (P1b) and Globanomalina compressa-Praemurica inconstans Subzone (P1c) belong to this zone; Morozovella angulata-Igorina pusilla Zone (P3) in Selandiyen and Morozovella angulata Subzone (P3a) and Igorina albeari Subzone (P3b) of biozone; in Selandian-Tanesian, Globanomalina is defined as pseudomenardii Range Zone. Lithological properties of the studied units and the planktonic foraminifera that it contains is abundant (99%) is a sign of a deep marine sedimentation environment.
