An investigation of environmental impacts of urban development within the scope of land use change for Sinop city center

The Opening Sinop-Samsun highway for public service that is an important investment for Sinop City, signing of the nuclear power plant deal and starting of infrastructure preparation process, upgrading present the Sinop airport with new investments and increasing the operational capacity, establishment of Sinop University and resulting increase in the number of stuff and students in a short time, completion of new hospital building, activation of organized industrial zone and other conditions have led to population growth and rapid urbanization in a short time in Sinop city center. The population growth has brought a rapid urbanization in Sinop city center. In this process, qualitative and quantitative data are required to ensure timely for managers who decide healthy Sinop city. Aim of this study is to make preliminary investigation about urban development of Sinop city center and environmental impacts of urban development and also making case analysis for Sinop city center. In this study, urban development and its environmental impacts are discussed for Sinop city centre. In scope of the work; population growth, urban development process, land use change, settlements to disaster areas and environmental impact problems are examined. As a result, a rapid urban development is observed in Sinop city center. Natural features, cultural values and environmental impacts should be taken into account in urban development process in Sinop city center anymore.
