Abstract (EN)
In this study we investigated the Elazığ magmatic rocks that are outropping at the Northof the Kale Elazığ-Malatya highway between the Kale town and Malatya city. Apart from the Elazığ magmatics, the Late Cretaceous Ispendere Ophiolite, the Middle Eocene Maden Complex and the Middle Eocene and younger sedimentary rocks crop out in the region. The magmatic rocks in the studied area are composed of volcanic and plutonic rocks belonging to the Elazığ Magmatics. The volcanic rocks consist ofbasalt, andesite, dacite and rhyolite, the plutonic rocks vary from gabbro to tonalite and granite. The fielddatadisplay that the plutonic rocks are cut off the volcanic rocks. It is seen thatthe plutonic rocksin the Elazığ Magmatics, which provide large outcrops around Elazığ, cut the volcanic rocks and even someplutonic rocks cut someother plutonics. The geochemical data show that rocks such as basalt and gabbro- tonalite display low K tholeiitic features, whereas granite-granodiorite have acalcalkaline and monzonitic rocks shoshonitic characteristics. The geochemicaldata also indicate that this rocks are I type granitoids. Aaccording to the geochemical analysis results, it defined that these magmatic rocks in the study area is a part of the Late Cretaceous Elazığ Magmatics and are products of an island arc formed by spreading above a northward-dipping intra oceanic, subduction of Neotethyan Ocean during Upper Cretaceous. Key Words: Elazığ Magmatic, Island arc, Petrography, Geochemistry, Şişman village, Malatya.
