Abstract (EN)

Design bases of the structures, that are built with seismic isolation systems for reducing the earthquake effects by lengthening the structures? periods, are investigated in this study. Initially, the classification, mechanical characteristics and theoretical essentials of the seismic isolation systems are given in detail and the code provisions for seismic isolated structures are explained. In the applications chapter a fixed-base and three different types of isolated models of a 4 storey reinforced concrete structure have been formed. The HDR, LRB and FPS types of bearings have been used in seismic isolated structure models. The UBC 97 code provisions have been considered in designing the seismic isolated structure models. The time history analyses have been carried out for structure models on SAP2000N structural analysis programme by utilising the Düzce earthquake?s (1999) Bolu N-S acceleration records. Finally, storey drifts, accelerations, base shears and periods of the structure models obtained from the analyses are presented and the advantages and disadvantages of the seismic isolation systems are discussed.
