Abstract (EN)

Reading is a significant activity that provides individuals with access to information, develops their thinking, and enhances their quality of life. For teachers, in particular, reading habits are crucial for both their personal development and their ability to provide more effective education to their students. On the other hand, individuals' well-being has a significant impact on their life satisfaction and overall quality of life. It is likely that teachers who read regularly have higher self-esteem, lower stress levels, and greater job satisfaction. Teachers' well-being can positively affect students' academic achievement, motivation, and classroom environment. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the reading habits and well-being of pre-service elementary teachers. A survey research design and correlational research technique were used within the quantitative research method in the study. The data collection process of the study was carried out in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year at the Department of Class Teaching, Faculty of Education, Pamukkale University. A convenience sampling method was preferred in determining the study group. The study reached 120 pre-service teachers (89 female, 31 male). According to the research findings, female pre-service teachers have a more positive attitude towards reading habits than male pre-service teachers. The pre-service teachers' attitudes towards reading habits do not differ according to "grade level" and "time spent reading". It was found that pre-service teachers who have a library have a more positive attitude towards reading habits than pre-service teachers who do not have a library. When the relationship between the pre-service teachers' "attitudes towards reading habits" and "general well-being" was examined, a negative, weak, and significant relationship was found (r=-,182, p< ,047). As the reading habits of pre-service teachers increase, their well-being decreases. Appropriate assessments should be made about the well-being of pre-service teachers, and measures should be taken to eliminate the negativities.
