Classroom teachers' views on mathematical misconceptions in elementary school students

Abstract (EN)

This research is a qualitative study that aims to examine the views of classroom teachers on the misconceptions of mathematics misconceptions in primary school students, and the basic qualitative research design was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 40 classroom teachers working in public and private schools in Kastamonu province in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years. In this study, data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The data obtained were subjected to content analysis following an inductive approach. NVIVO 11 software was used to analyze the data. According to the findings, classroom teachers stated that students had mathematical misconceptions. It was also observed that their suggestions for solutions to the misconceptions they encountered in students differed depending on some variables. As a result of the research, it was determined that the opinions of classroom teachers about misconceptions in the learning areas of mathematics course were in parallel with the studies in the literature.
