Comparison of the classroom teachers and the candidate classroom teachers' reading interests and reading habits

The aim of this research is c ompare with the candidate classroom teachers and the classroom teachers? reading interests and habits. Adnan Menderes University, Education Faculty and The Primary Schools in Aydın were chosen for the sample of the study. Totally 151 candidate classroom teachers and 203 classroom teachers took in the study sampling.Research instruments are ?Reading Interest Scale?, ?Adult Form for Interests Questionnaire? developed by Dökmen (1994), and ?personal information form? which has prepared by the researchers.In this study, percentage distribution, mean, standart deviation and nmaximum minimum of value of data were calculated. x2 analyses were made. ANOVA (f, t tests) were applied and coralations coefficients were calculated in the direction of sub-problems.According to results of the study,Reading interests of the female candidate classroom teachers and female classroom teachers is higher than male candidate classroom teachers and male classroom teachers?. Besides, the results of study indicate that reading interests and reading habits of the participants are at medium level.The candidate classroom teachers? reading interests is higher than the classroom teachers? reading interests.While the candidate classroom teachers prefer that reading ?newspapers, journals, humour and science books?; the classroom teachers prefer that reading ?newspapers, arts, culture and science books.The candidate classroom teachers says that the causes of can?t reading books enough are ?watching tv? and can?t find enough time?however the classroom teachers says that ?watching tv and to be tired?.Total score reading interests of the participants is at ?high-proficient? level and there is significant coralation among number of reading books, journals in months and number of having books.
