Investigating the relationship between creativity and the levels of creativity support of primary school teachers

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the levels of creativity and the levels of creativity support of primary school teachers and to investigate the relationship between them. Moreover, it is to investigate whether there is a significant difference between the primary school teachers' creativity levels and creativity support levels and variables of gender, age, professional seniority, education level, number of students in the class, any course or in-service training related to creativity, level of interest in art, the status of musical instrument playing, the location of childhood, the level of satisfaction with the profession, the duration of watching tv and the duration of using social media. The study group of the study consisted of 327 volunteer primary school teachers working in districts of Sakarya province during the 2017-2018 academic year,in public and private primary schools in Adapazarı, Akyazı, Arifiye, Erenler, Ferizli, Hendek, Karapürçek, Sapanca, Serdivan and Söğütlü .The research is a descriptive study in the survey model. In the study, the Teacher Creativity Scale was used to measure the level of creativity of primary school teacher and Creativity Fostering Primary Teachers Index Scale was used to measure classroom teachers' creativity support levels.In addition, Personal Information Form, which was developed by the researcher and containing questions about the variables of the research, was used. According to the results of the study, it was found that there was a significant difference between the creativity levels of the primary school teachers and the age, education level, any course or in-service training related to creativity, the level of interest in art variables in terms of their total scores. It was found that there was no significant difference between the teachers' creativity levels and gender, professional seniority, the number of students in their class, the location of childhood, the duration of watching tv and the duration of using social media in terms of their total scores. It was found that there was a significant difference between the levels of supporting the creativity of the primary school teachers and professional seniority, the number of students in their class, the place of childhood and the level of satisfaction with the profession. It has been found that there is no significant difference between the levels of supporting the creativity of the primary school teachers and gender, age, education level, any course or in-service training related to creativity, level of interest in art, status of playing musical instruments, the duration of watching tv and the duration of using social media. At the end of the study, a moderate, positive and significant relationship was found between the teachers' creativity levels and the levels of supporting creativity.The results of the research were compared, discussed and interpreted with the findings from similar studies. Based on a moderate positive relationship between the level of creativity and the level of creativity of the primary school teachers to improve their creativity, the provision of in-service training, certificate programs, workshops can be effective in the development of creativity.
