Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTPoverty and living in squatter housing play an important role in creation of risk-bearing environments particularly for children, and in orientation of same to streets.Economical insufficiencies impel them to early employment in order to be able tocontribute to family budget. However, these children have to work in streets for hoursinvoluntarily, and exhibit tendency of orientation to illegal works due to the workingbanns in streets of children introduced by laws.The main objective of this study is to determine the possibilities of risks oforientation to streets of the children living in slum areas which are located in out ofurban districts, benefited from infra- and superstructures of city in minimum, anddescribed as the areas opened to any and all risks, and to depict their livingconditions in streets. Interviews were made with 45 children and 20 families as aresult of investigations realized in the areas at Ulus, Kızılay and Bakanlıklar in linewith the centers for children and youth connected with the Provincial Directorate forSocial Services of Ankara where children work on the streets. The findings of studyshow that in-family disengagements are encouraged by the families living in squatterhousing which cannot become urbanized, and additionally overcome economicaldifficulties, and that the control mechanism in this context removed over childrenmakes streets an attractive centre for children.
