Abstract (EN)

Since oil and gas account for more than 80% of Nigeria's current GDP, the country's economy is completely reliant on these two commodities. However, inconsistent power from all sources has slowed economic development throughout all regions in Nigeria. The motivations, challenges, and returns of solar energy strategy implementation are investigated. This was completed with a literature research and semi-structured interviews with two senior management authorities from solar energy players in Nigeria, and using their responses to design a framework for solar energy in Nigerian power industry. Energy procurement in distant places, where existing sources of power supply are ineffective, where transmission line expansion is not practicable or possibly not economically efficient, has been the primary motivation for the notion of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Solar energy is the cleanest form of electricity generation. While the cost of PV modules and installation is considerable, it is competitive with other types of generating systems, such as diesel, in terms of total cost of ownership.
