The effect of CRP/albumin ratio, lactate/albumin ratio, and LDH/albumin ratio on mortality and morbidity in acute head trauma patients hospitalized in our intensive care unit over the last five years

Objective: The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the effect of the CRP/albumin ratio, lactate/albumin ratio, and LDH/albumin ratio on mortality in patients with acute head trauma who were monitored in the intensive care unit of our hospital over the past five years. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 273 patients who were admitted to the Reanimation Intensive Care Unit of İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center between December 15, 2019, and December 15, 2024, due to acute head trauma. Demographic data, clinical data, scoring system results, biochemical and hematological laboratory findings, blood gas analyses, inflammatory markers, and comorbidities were obtained from the hospital information system. The collected data were analyzed statistically. Results: In the comparison of patients' CRP/albümin (p:0.014), lactate/albümin (p<0.001), and LDH/albümin (p:0.001) ratios between survivors and non-survivors, all three ratios were found to be statistically significant in predicting mortality. The most common cause of head trauma was falls from height. Male patients were more frequently affected by acute head trauma. The presence of comorbidities increased mortality rates. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), APACHE and SOFA scores at admission were found to be significant predictors of mortality. Conclusion: The CRP/Albumin, Lactate/Albumin, and LDH/Albumin ratios were determined to be effective markers for predicting mortality in patients with acute head trauma.
