Teaching language and literature in the Azerbaijan high schools during the Soviet Period and after the independence

The aim of the research is to state the situation of teaching Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature in the high schools in Azerbaijan and to state the similarities and differences in the teaching of these subjects in the periods before and after the independence.The studies on teaching Azerbaijan Turkish languge and literature in the high schools in Azerbaijan during the Soviet Period and the period after the independence and the researches made in Turkey on this area form the model of the research.Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature curriculum and the text books used in Azerbaijan during the Soviet Period and the period after the independence form the universe of this research.The Azerbaijan Turkish languge and literature high school text books which are identified through coincidential paradigm among the Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature textbooks used in the high schools in Azerbaijan during the Soviet Period and the paradigm of the research.In the first step of the study, the data were translated into Turkish of Turkey, then the high school curriculum and textbook of Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature were examined and the class hours, the texts and the methods of Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature lesson were indentified.In the study, general information on the ideas about teaching in Azerbaijan before the USSR domination, during the USSR period and after the independence were given; the history of development of Azerbaijan Turkish language and literature in the high schools in Azerbaijan, the studies of Azerbaijan academics on teaching, the textbooks written in Azerbaijan Turkish languge and literature, the curriculum, and the textbooks were mentioned.Key Words: Azerbaijan Turkish, teaching literature, USSR period, middle/high school curriculum, textbook.
