Abstract (EN)

In this study methylated hexane extracts of four plants, Dianthus elegans d?Urv. var.elegans, Dianthus erinaceus Boiss. var. erinaceus, Dianthus lydus and Dianthus zonatusFenzl. var. zonatus, were investigated on the basis of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) combine system. The 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical assay and MIC(Minimum Inhibision Consantration) assay were used to determine the antioxidant andantimicrobial activity of the plant extracts. The dominant GC-MS results and their percentagesof the extracts can be written as fallow: Linoleic Acid (%51.98), Oleic Acid (%22.44), PalmiticAcid (%14.09), Docosanoic Acid (%8.58) and Stearic Acid (%1.63) for Dianthus elegans d?Urv.var. elegans; Oleic Acid (%32.19), Palmitic Acid (%24.89), Linoleic Acid (%17.80), DocosanoicAcid (%8.58), Stearic Acid (%4.15) and Eikosanoic Acid (%2.07) for Dianthus erinaceus Boiss.var. erinaceus; Oleic Acid (%48.54), Palmitic Acid (%29.49), Linoleic Acid (%8.34), PalmitoleicAcid (%4.11) and Stearic Acid (%2.00) for Dianthus lydus Boiss.; Oleic Acid (%36.17), PalmiticAcid (%27.25), Linoleic Acid (%20.77), Miristic Acid (%4.87) and Stearic Acid (%4.10) forDianthus zonatus Fenzl. var. zonatus. Among investigated plants, D. elegans d?Urv. var.elegans, showed the highest antioxidant activy. According to the antimicrobial activity results ofthe hexane extracts of D. elegans d?Urv. var. elegans , D. erinaceus Boiss. var. erinaceus andD.zonatus Fenzl. var. zonatus showed considerable antimicrobial activity againstS. epidermidis ATCC 12228; D. erinaceus Boiss. var. erinaceus and D. zonatus Fenzl. var.zonatus showed activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10239 .I
