The effect of step aerobic and resistance exercises on some physical and physiological parameters in middle aged women

Abstract (EN)

Purpose:This study was aimed to determine the effects of regular step-aerobic and resistance exercises on some physical fitness and blood parameters in sedentary women and to contribute to the literature. Method:24 sedentary female volunteers, ages between 30-65, participated in this study. The experimental group had 13 and the control group had 11 individuals. In both groups; right/left-handgrips, leg and back strengths, flexibility, vertical leap, bodyweights, body fat and muscle amounts, BMI, HDL, LDL, triglyceride values analyzed as pre-test and post-test. In-group comparisons (pre-test and post-test) Wilcoxon test was used. Mann Whitney U test used to see the statistical differences between both group variables. Result:Demographic data of the experimental group were, for age: 40.61±9.78 years, for height: 147.51±44,.15cm. Demographic data of the control group were; for age: 40.72±12.77 years, for height: 158.72±5.46cm. When the comparison results examined at the end of the 14-week program; Statistically significant changes (p<0.05) were observed in the back and leg strengths, right/left-handgrip strengths, flexibility, vertical jump, bodyweight, muscle and fat amounts, BMI, HDL LDL, triglyceride values. Conclusion:After 14 weeks of Step-aerobics and resistance exercises, there were significant effects on right/left-handgrip strengths, leg and back strengths, flexibility, vertical jump, body weights, body fat and muscle amounts, BMI, HDL, LDL, triglyceride values.
