Strategic development tools in strategic management: Competition perception in cosmetic products field

Abstract (EN)

The importance of strategic management and the use of tools specific to strategic development has gaining importance especially for decision makers. Hence, it is necessary to follow the developments occuring in these fields. In the first part of this study, which has been carried to set an example to such aforementioned necessity, the definitions, historical development, importance, and dimensions of strategic management are discussed while focusing on desing, planning, positioning, entrepreneurial, cognitive learning, power, cultural, environmental and confuguration as major schools of thinking. The process of strategic management is articulated under the headings of strategic analysis, strategic development and strategic choice and implimentation.In the second chapter titled Management Strategies and Strategy Development Techniques, generic strategies such as, expansion, stability, retrenchment strategies. Strategy development techniques are studied by paying close attention to its current situaion, environment, and behavioral dimensions of the organization while analysing some portfolio matrices. Within this framework, among the techniques developed for the behavioral demension of the organization, organization social performace analysis, managerial capability, top management capability feasibility and space analyses, and among those on the organization?s environment, organizational stakeholder analysis and lastly, among the techniques on the status of the organization strategic four-factor analysis are added to the research literature in Turkish.The third chapter is composed of the results of Cosmetic Products Area?s competition perception analysis with a focus on whether or not the perception of comptetion differs on the bases of the demographic dimensions of the organizations. The results suggest that, the perception of sectoral competition of cosmetic products is above medium in force and differ on the grounds of organizations? demographic dimensions.
