Abstract (EN)

The ancient city of Stratonikeia, which has been continuously inhabited from past to present, has hosted many cultures and civilizations. The presence of large-scale structures and monumental construction, especially in the Hellenistic and Roman Periods, indicates that it was an important political settlement centre. Necropolis areas and rural settlements (Börükçü, Beybağı, Kumyer, Kurudere, Karıngeçli Kuyu, Değirmenderesi, Kocabağ, Bozukbağ, Çapalıbağ Mevki) around the sacred road between Stratonikeia and Lagina Hekate sacred site have provided important findings. In this study, a comprehensive study was conducted by evaluating the development stages of the textile materials and culture in the Stratonikeia territorium. Materials related to weaving, which originates from the need to cover up, which is an important requirement for people, are encountered abundantly in building ruins, necropolis areas and on the surface in urban and rural settlements. These weaving materials were evaluated as weights, spindle whorls, spools, spindle hooks, needles, needles, wool combs and textile remains. They are divided into types to show their diversity. The majority of these materials are preserved in the Muğla Museum.
